Sony Animation’s latest release, “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse,” is proving to be a box office sensation, poised to outshine many live-action Marvel superhero films with its impressive sales figures. On its opening day, it raked in over $40 million, including previews, with an optimistic projection of reaching a three-day total of $100 million. The movie’s success is a significant leap compared to the original 2018 movie’s debut, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” which had an opening of $35.3 million. The social media buzz around this release has been incredibly positive, with fans and super-fans reposting materials online at a massive viral rate of 47:1.

Starring Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy aka Spider-Woman, “Across the Spider-Verse” continues to showcase the unique, expansive, and colorful web of destiny for its characters. The film is predicted to surpass the original by 15% in terms of social media stats, currently boasting a significant 665.1 million followers across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok combined. Moreover, it has generated significant excitement in the audience, with fans looking forward to the upcoming animated and live films.

In the shadow of the Spider-Verse’s success, Disney holds spots 2, 3, and 4 on the chart. “The Little Mermaid” is in its second weekend and expected to make around $12 million, contributing to a 10-day total of approximately $189.7 million. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3” is set to make a fifth Friday of $3 million, while “The Boogeyman” anticipates about $4.5 million for its opening day. Universal’s “Fast X” is looking at a third Friday of $2.4 million, and an estimated running total of $127.5 million by Sunday.

Despite the intense competition in the market, “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” is undeniably standing out with its robust performance. The preview for the movie alone garnered 4.5 times more revenue than the first animated movie, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” did on its Thursday night. Although the sequel’s box office figures are tricky to estimate, given its uniqueness as a Marvel animated movie, it is fair to say that it has exceeded expectations. In addition, the film has received critical acclaim with a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences already giving it a stellar 97%.
